STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — More than 15,000 cases of oyster crackers have been recalled after stainless steel wire was found in the product, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recall was issued by Shearer’s Foods LLC on Feb. 21 for the crackers, which were distributed to Target, Walmart and Giant Eagle, and sold under brand names Market Pantry, Great Value Giant Eagle and VISTA.

The product was distributed to retailers in Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin, the FDA said.

Those who may have purchased the recalled oyster crackers should not consume them, according to the recall announcement. It is recommended that they be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for an exchange or refund.

The recall was classified as Class II, meaning that consuming the product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences,” according to the FDA.
